Interior design is both a functional and luxurious way to inject one’s style and personality into any room. Therefore, if you’re the sort of individual who dares to be different, it’s important for your living space to reflect that sentiment. There are many ways to make a statement with furniture. Whether you want to add depth or character, create a focal point, or spark conversation, introducing a stand-out piece can have a huge impact. So, from bold gestures to tones and textures, here’s our guide to finding the ideal statement piece to enhance your home.
What is statement furniture?
Statement furniture does not refer to a particular style. Instead, this term encompasses a wide range of attributes. For instance, it could be unique, eye-catching, or simply memorable in some way. Often selected as a centrepiece of a room, statement pieces are specifically designed to draw attention. Typical traits include bold prints and vibrant colours, exaggerated shapes, unusual textures, and most importantly, impeccable quality. As a result, the perfect statement piece for your home could be anything from a contrasting accent chair to an exquisitely crafted desk.

How to use statement furniture
There are a number of things to take into account when looking at statement furniture. Certain pieces, such as end tables, do not usually form the focal point of a room. Consequently, smaller or “secondary” items risk being overpowered by larger furniture, like a sofa or bed. For this reason, it’s important to observe the space prior to deciding on the statement you wish to make. What elements of the room immediately draw your eye? Are these what you wanted to stand out? If the answer is no, it might be time to replace them. Alternatively, introducing a new statement piece could help to draw attention to the desired area.
If you care little for colour, experimenting with texture can also work wonders. What could you add that is unlike anything else in the room? If your interior consists of geometric shapes and sleek surfaces, think about incorporating a more organic-looking piece. Perhaps your home has a more classical style that is calling out for a dash of contemporary design. Though juxtapositions such as these are sure to make an impact, if a piece is going to be the focus of a room, it must be well made.

Choosing the perfect statement piece
Once you’ve identified where the interior might be in need, it’s time to begin seeking the answer to that problem. And, when searching for the ideal statement piece, there are three main points to consider:
1. Your own personal style
This may seem like a given, but it’s easy to make decisions based on current trends rather than something you really love. Ergo, an item is more likely to fall out of your favour as soon as it falls out of fashion. If something truly speaks to you, don’t be afraid to take a risk. What’s more, all of our designs are totally customisable, meaning there’s no need to compromise when it comes to aspects such as size or shade.
2. Any existing decor
Whilst you may want to make a striking contrast, it is important that the new piece complements what you already have – unless of course you have chosen to redecorate entirely (in this case, you might be interested to learn more about our luxury interior design service). Avoid opting for items that will either completely overpower or be overpowered. For example, placing a small piece in a room filled with large furniture simply isn’t going to work. Consider using a simple colour wheel that will help to keep your interior feeling balanced.
3. The purpose of a space
Everything needs to make sense in its environment; your chosen piece should stand out for all the right reasons, not because it doesn’t fit. As well as being well-made and beautiful, statement furniture must also be functional. If you are adding to an environment used predominantly for relaxation, you don’t want something that is going to be over-stimulating or distracting.
