Supercars, classic cars, hypercars and helicopters. The finest Italian tailoring, bespoke fitted garages, fine fragrances and luxury cosmetics. Manufacturers and visitors may have come from all around the globe but Salon Privé was an undeniably British affair, right down to the last raindrop. It’s all over for another year but what did the Juliettes team enjoy most about their first appearance at this superb exhibition of all things classic, luxury and best of breed?
Juliette Thomas, Director
I’ve been to Salon Privé as a visitor before but never as an exhibitor. It has given me an appreciation of how hard everyone works here behind the scenes. The whole show passed by in a blur of the most entertaining of visitors, iconic cars on parade, and no small amount of lobster! In terms of luxury and aspiration, I think my favourite thing at the show has to be the helicopters. I spent some time talking to the team at Sloane Helicopters about their range of private and executive helicopters – built for top performance with low environmental impact; luxurious, comfortable, customisable interiors; in-flight entertainment systems to keep my four children happy; and extended baggage space to carry everything I need for work and all my personal luggage. Now all I need is somewhere to land…

I thoroughly enjoyed Salon Privé and can’t wait for next year. We spoke to so many lovely people, sharing stories, experiences and some fabulous cocktails, served from our fabulous gin trolley by the wonderful Keith at Wild Island Gin. I was rushed off my feet most of the time but I did manage to visit some of the other wonderful brands on display. It is difficult to choose a favourite but my love of gorgeous perfumes kept leading me back to Boadicea The Victorious. Named after the ferocious warrior queen of the Iceni, apparently (being Italian, this episode in history was new to me), their fragrances are all made in England and are gender neutral, offering timeless classic luxury with an edgy, modern twist. It is so hard to choose one favourite, especially as they have fragrances in their Gold Collection called Chelsea and Kings Road, but I think I would have to go for Antedios. Their notes say that it has top notes of citrus, a floral heart of rose, jasmine and neroli, with a base of clove, cinnamon and amber. All I know is it smells divine.

Salon Privé was an Italian car enthusiast’s dream. Never have I seen so many classics and amazing supercars in one place. Ferrari, Bugatti, Lamborghini – I had to tear myself away. Obviously, the cars were my favourite part of the show but the other brand that really caught my eye was Canali. This is tailor-made menswear at its finest. Suits, blazers, shirts, ties, even shoes – all are crafted to be timeless, elegant and wearable but with that extra touch of Italian flair. If I could, I think I would be in Canali from top to toe.

We were surrounded by so much luxury, and the food was equally impressive. Each day we were treated to an exquisite lobster and champagne lunch with delicious salads, artisan breads and delicate desserts. The Pimm’s flowed freely, along with the champagne, and the day was rounded off with a wonderfully English afternoon tea; tasty little finger sandwiches, delightful morsels of cake and, of course, traditional scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream. A very British affair.

What a way to spend the day (or three days), surrounded by some of the world’s most beautiful cars and top luxury brands. There were so many photo opportunities, it was difficult to know where to start. Smart, gleaming classic cars, supercars in the rain, ladies in hats and fabulous food and drink. But I still think that my favourite item from the whole show was our own gorgeous gin trolley – and cocktails with Keith from Wild Island Gin. He gave us a quick tutorial on how to make his own favourite cocktail – the Southside, a gloriously refreshing burst of lime, mint and, of course, gin. We then moved on to our signature J&T cocktail – Pickering’s Original 1947 Gin, elderflower and rose combined with ginger and a sprinkle of nutmeg. A garden party in a glass. Thanks, Keith!

It has to be the Aston Martin DB5 Superleggera. A little out of my price range, maybe, but something to aspire to. Isn’t she beautiful?
